Happy Groundhog Day! Our favorite holiday! Mostly because we love Bill Murray. And possibly your favorite as well because this should mark the end of all our Groundhog Day references (last chance to buy an insurance plan from Ned with the optional death and dismemberment plan). Just don't forget to drink to world peace. Always. This week we are lucky to get to tell you about a new video component to Neil Young's most recent record, Le Noise. This is available now from WEA or your favorite one-stop, so make sure you stock your shelves! You should all be getting promo DVDs in the mail by the beginning of next week, but if you don't for any reason, let us know and we'll get one right out to you. Also, if any of you have Blu-ray players in your stores, we have a small quantity of Blu-ray promos on hand as well. Just holler! |

Neil Young "Le Noise" Blu-ray/DVD [AVAILABLE NOW!] |
||||||
![]() |
You're all aware of Neil Young's most recent album Le Noise that was released at the end of September on Reprise Records, but were you aware that there's also a companion Blu-ray/DVD available? Consider yourself made aware. The Le Noise DVD features Young performing each of the eight songs from the album, as shot by filmmaker Adam Vollick. The DVD captures "[the creation of] one of the most sonically arresting albums Young has ever recorded. No band, no overdubs, just "a man on a stool and [Daniel Lanois] doing a nice job on the recording (neilyoungnews.thrasherswheat.org). "Le Noise, Young's perhaps inevitable team-up with famed producer Daniel Lanois... features mostly just Young, electric guitar, and a battery of effects-- echoing, resonating, occasionally roaring, and raging. Not that Young necessarily needs all that. With his sneering warble and ragged but right guitar playing, he's always been his own best effect, but here Young and Lanois relish the happy accidents both producer and artist have always embraced, resisting the urge to sand off the jagged edges into the ambient ether" (pitchfork.com). Le Noise DVD captures the performances of these newest Neil Young songs live at Lanois' home studio in California in eight beautiful black and white films. So sit back and give both your ears and eyes something to feast on. Also, if anyone has Blu-ray players at their disposal, let us know and we’ll get one over to you on Blu-ray as well! Yup, we really are moving up in the world. This is available now from WEA and your favorite one-stop, pick it up! |

The Dears "Degeneration Street" [Feb 15] |
||||||
![]() |
Now for a band who are constantly re-inventing themselves. We think this record will mark the third sonic rebirth of Canadian band The Dears. While we are fairly obsessed with Morrissey and any band that sounds similar - meaning we really enjoyed The Dears' earliest work, we absolutely love where this band has landed. These are easily the best songs this band has written. Degeneration Street is a full on rock record, and it will knock you over. Its songs are huge, catchy, beautiful and require repeat listening. This record comes out on February 15 (<3) on Dangerbird (Fontana). You will love this record, and people will hear it playing in the store and beg you to sell it to them early. Its that awesome. So start spinning it! |
