Happy Friday! Anyone else in the northeast sick of all the snow yet? I can't tell if I'm more sick of the snow or the fact that the office is only a block from my apartment and I really can't ever declare a snow day. Does anyone have any excuses for going to the bar at 4pm today on account of all this snow that they'd like to lend me? One upside to all of the snow is being stuck inside with this seemingly endless supply of new music. Hopefully you are enjoying the same, regardless of your weather situation (yes LA, we know its 70 and sunny, thanks for another friendly reminder). Can we also say how happy and excited we are to hear how many stores were up over the holidays? I know we've said it a few times, but we have really high hopes for 2011. Its a different world then it was a few years ago, but its still a world that needs its record stores. And we're here to do our part to help with every aspect of that. Without you there is no us, so we thank you for doing as great of a job as you have been! Without any futher delay let's dive into our records for this week. Brand new records from two of our favorite bands will be gracing your shelves next week: Say Hi and The Get Up Kids. Could January get any more amazing? We thinks not. And don't forget to keep voting for 3S Artspace right HERE. Do it. |

The Get Up Kids "There Are Rules" [Jan 25] |

On Tuesday (Jan 25), AJ gets to do something he's dreamed of since he was a teenager: be a part of a new Get Up Kids release. This is a band that only gets better and better over time. The most exciting thing about The Get Up Kids' There Are Rules is the fact that its a total progression. The band aren't rehashing old sounds that they grew out of, or trying to mimic a past release that might have gotten more attention than the rest. Instead they gotten back on the horse and wrote a record for 2011 that they and everyone who's ever loved them can enjoy. Its dirty, aggressive, fun and catchy as hell. For those of you where aren't as familiar with the band as you should be (!), they were a pivotal emo band in the 90's that (for better or worse) helped set the stage for many bands to follow. This is their first studio full length of all original material since 2004. Since the band called it quits half a decade ago, they've become a bit of a reverse supergroup. Matt Pryor has enjoyed a very successful solo career under his own name as well as The New Amsterdams. James Dewees had a great streak as Reggie and the Full Effect, later touring in My Chemincal Romance, Rob Pope now plays bass in Spoon as well as TGUK, Ryan Pope played in Koufax and Jim Suptic went on to start Blackpool Lights. Its great to have them all back together writing and playing again, and it was well worth the wait. The band will be headlining all winter to support the release, and no doubt playing somewhere near you. You don't want to let this pass you by. There Are Rules is being released on the bands' own label, Quality Hill on CD and LP, and is distributed by Redeye. If you did not receive a promo in the last package and would like one, please let us know and we will take care of it. |

Say Hi "Um, Uh Oh" [Jan 25] |
||||||

Also coming out next week is the (lucky number) 7th release from one of our favorites: Say Hi (formerly Say Hi To Your Mom). Um, Uh Oh is available on January 25 from Barsuk (Redeye) on both CD and LP. We've been working on Eric's records since the very beginning, and its more fun each time, especially since Say Hi teamed up with Barsuk. And Um, Uh Oh is our favorite so far. And that’s not easy for us to say since we love so many of his records. This one is filled with moody, dark, lo fi pop goodness and melodies that you will never get out of your head. And as always, these songs are already being used for all sorts of television programming. Also- someone really needs to invent a genre name for Say Hi to fall under. Something along the lines of sad-adorable-rock maybe? It really does sit in a class all of its own. Just sayin. |
